Creating a Drop-Down in the Navigation Menu

Modified on Mon, 17 Mar at 1:17 PM

To create a drop-down list in the navigation menu, you can add a Menu Label item. A Menu Label item does not have a physical page that can be accessed by a user and serves only to help organize the pages within your navigation menu by nesting them into sub-menus.

1. Navigate to Settings.

Settings section in the Digital Workspace

2. While in the Your Pages section of Settings, click on the green Add Page button in the top right corner.

3. The information in the right column will now be configurable. Select Menu Label from the Type of Page drop-down menu.

4. Fill in the Navigation Label and Page Title

Note: The Page Title of a Menu Label is used for internal ID purposes only. You can make this the same as the Navigation Label.

5. You do not have to fill in any of the Search Engine Optimization fields as these do not apply to a Menu Label.

6. When you are finished, click Save this page to submit the item to Compliance for approval.

If you receive a "URL is already in use" error message, then your Menu Label may be using the same information as an existing page item. You can temporarily rename this to something else in order to save it, then correct the information after the Menu Label has been saved.

7. The Menu Label will now be added to the bottom of the Menu Structure. Select Edit Menu to manage the display order of your navigation menu items.

8. You should see a three-bar icon appear to the left of each menu item. This indicates that you can now select and move the pages in the Menu Structure.

9. You can now select your Menu Label item and move it up and down the Menu Structure to change where the item will display.

10. You can select any page and indent the item to the right to nest it beneath the Menu Label item to create a drop-down menu on your web page.

9. When you are finished editing the menu, click the Save Menu button beside the Menu Structure header. Your menu should now be saved as you configured it.

10. You should now be able to preview your changes on the Draft website in the My Website section of the Digital Workspace.

Important: If your Menu Label is still Pending approval, all pages that are nested beneath it will NOT display on the live website until after your Menu Label has been approved.
