Page Template Layout vs Web Content Layout

Page Template Layout Columns

  • These columns control the overall page structure and determine where content blocks and Web Gadgets can be placed.

  • After adding content or gadgets, you can drag and drop them into different page columns. Content will snap into place based on the available column guides (shown as grey boxes).

  • Page columns are responsive—content and web gadgets placed in the column will automatically resize to fit the column width.

  • Page columns are limited by the number and configuration of columns available in the page template and can not be altered or expanded upon.

Layout Columns (within the New Web Content Editor)

  • Created inside an individual content block using the Layout tool in the web content editor.

  • These columns allow you to design flexible arrangements of text, images, and other elements within a single content block.

  • Layout columns are responsive, automatically adjusting to different screen sizes, but they remain contained inside the larger page column where the content block is placed.

  • May be combined with page layout columns to created nested column displays.

  • Example: Two column content block layout displaying inside of a two column page layout

In summary:

  • Page template layout columns = overall page structure (where content blocks can live).

  • Layout columns = flexible design inside a content block (how content within that block is arranged).
